Hippo?

Olive plays a game called "Hippo?" Where she points at things and says "Hippo?" and we say "Nooooooo." And then we ask Olivia, "Is this a Hippo?" and Olivia responds "Noooooo."

Anyway, it's a lot more fun than it sounds.

We were sitting in the car and we were pointing at things and saying the words for them, and we pointed at the sun roof.

Dad: "Sun roof."

Olivia: "Obrifgh"

Dad: "Sun"

Olivia: "Shun"

Dad: "Roof"

Olivia: "Rufsh"

Dad: "Sun Roof"

Olivia: "Obrifgh"

Dad: "Ok, close. Sun."

Olivia: "Shun"

Dad: "Roof"

Olivia: "Rufsh"

Dad: "Sun Roof"

Olivia: [pointing at sun roof] "Hippo?"

P A R T Y !

Olivia decided it was time to immitate the Episode of FunkyZeit Mit Bruno, where Bruno gets the wrestlers to shout "P" "A" "R" "T" "Y". Party! [ Small (.6 MB) Large (2.0 MB)]

No Longer A Baby

Olivia lost a lot of weight when she had the EvilThrowUpIllness (it's all relative when you weigh 25 pounds). She thinned out and continues to grow tall. Our little baby girl is looking more and more like a little kid.

First Vomiting

Olivia was sick from February 19th to the 24th. She had frequent vomiting, diarrhea and was just listless and totally unlike herself - or so I was told. Jenny had gone down to visit her parents, and while there she became sick. Jenny was concerned with driving with a vomit spewing baby in the car, plus her parents and sister provided great support for her as she dealt with our sick and needy baby.

I think if Jenny were here at home, and i was at work, the washing of vomit-laden laundry would have been enough to drive her insane - so it was best for them to stay down there. Plus I had the benefit of not getting whatever the virus was - and I didn't have to sympathy vomit (I will vomit when I see others vomit).

Anyway, aside from loosing a lot of her baby weight, she's happy, healthy and running around.
Oh, and she's eating more now than ever!

A dark, dark week

We had our first bout with a stomach virus this past week. Since I haven't seen my baby throw up since she was about 3 months old, the non-stop pukefest that was the first 24 hours was truly horrifying. Between 11:30 pm Saturday and 11:30 am Sunday, Olivia threw up at least ten times. By the fourth or fifth event, she was so exhausted she just slept through it, while Grandma and I held her and cleaned her off. It was incredibly sad. We had an upswing on Sunday, and then another crash Monday… for the next three days the girl was listless, with several pukes a day and little in the way of wet diapers (vomiting + diarrhea = concern for dehydration). All she wanted to do was sit on someone's lap and watch Thomas the Tank Engine videos. She was pale, and dark circles appeared under her eyes. We worried that she'd need to be hospitalized to get rehydrated. Then on Wednesday morning, the tide appeared to turn. She woke up with a nice wet diaper, and she SMILED. Things have continued to improve, although the girl has lost some weight and looks frail and gaunt. The dark circles haven't quite disappeared yet. Grandpa, Grandma & Aunt Sarah took care of us the whole week, which was a huge relief. I didn't have to worry about shopping, cooking, laundry… I could just be sick and worry about O. If there's a nice way to get sick, that would be it!
