Fun with Visitors
Yesterday was a big day for Olivia. Early in the day, Auntie Buffy (also known as "Ya Ya"), her son Andrew and their ADORABLE dog Heidi came over for a visit. Andy read Olivia books, and they played on the floor with the dogs (Heidi gave O. a thorough face licking). Then Olive put on her rain boots and we went for a walk around the block with many pauses to stomp/wade through the puddles.
Olivia was asleep within 2 minutes of their departure, she was so tired! Later in the afternoon, Katie, Jeff, Nora & baby Anneke came over to visit and have some dinner. Again, much fun was had with O & No running around, taking a bath and generally having a blast finding the middle ground between 1 and 3 year olds.
O. was so excited that she couldn't get to sleep until 10 pm last night. She just sat in my lap saying everyone's names.
"Dohah?"
"Yes, Nora came over."
"Kaaah?"
"And baby Anneke was here, too."
"Feff?"
"That's right, Jeff came over."
"Keeedeee?"
"Very good! Katie."
(Repeat 5 times)
"Ahdooo?"
"You remember Andrew? Yes, he visited us today."
"Yaya?"
"Mmmmhmmm, Buffy Yaya was here earlier, too."
"Eyedeeeee?"
"Do you remember Heidi, the little black dog?"
(Repeat at least 5 times.)
We *finally* got to sleep.
First thing this morning, Olive sat up in bed and said "Feff? Keedee?" Needless to say, another round of remembering and trying to say names ensued.
Phone Conversation
I had to leave for work before Olive and Jenny were awake. I called to make sure Jenny would awake in time for an appointment, and found that they were lazing in bed, waking up, getting prepared for the day.
Jenny asked if I had time to talk with Olive, and I did.
This is the conversation:
"Da, dah?"
"Hi, Olivia, what does a cow say?"
"Moo."
"What does a sheep say?"
"Baa."
"What do the three singing pigs say?"
"la, la, la."
"What does Olivia say?"
"Goh-gee-goh-gee-goh."
"Can you say 'Love you!'?"
"Waah-vue."
It's the longest conversation we've ever had by phone, and it made my day.
Sleeping on the Floor
Olivia can command the room at Grandpa and Grandma. Witness the disaster preparedness and victim triage exercise below.
Actually, Olivia likes to pretend to sleep on the floor, and convinced the whole house to participate.
Paté!
Olivia was presented with a wide variety of appetizers on Christmas day at Grandma and Grandpa's: cheese, crackers, smoked salmon, and paté. She chose the paté, eating it off of crackers, but not eating the actual cracker.
Jenny called the next day and said that Olive had a gigantic poo, very smelly and very green. It must been the Christmas Eve St. Agur and the Christmas Day paté
Dancing Jingbah
Grandma Carol bought Olivia a Dancing Jingbah for Christmas. For those not in the know, Jingbah is part of the Booh-Bah ensemble. Booh-Bah's are weird, bulbous, penis shaped dancing blobs of indiscriminate sex.
They dance around to tribal techno, while their bellies flicker with golden glowing, and eventually fly up into the sky. The best part of the show is the start when they"hatch" from their incubators with a farting noise.
I'm not joking.
We let Olive watch the show on occasion, and she absolutely loves it. She got all her dance moves from Zing Zingbah. At one point she declared "Baaaah?" nearly every time she walked by the TV.
Anyway, the toy is insane. You squeeze it's hand or it's foot and it: farts, dances, wiggles and sings. It's LOUD. It's OBNOXIOUS. And Olivia LOVES it.
Needless to say, that's the kind of toy we leave at Grandma's.
Olga and Olive
Olga babysits Olive about once a week. Olive loves Olga - she often refers to Olga whne she's not here ("gah?"). They go to the park, play at the house, dance to music, play in water, all the stuff that Olivia loves.
