Hair Extensions
All the girls at Liv's preschool have extensions, and so, you know, we had to get her some. We think it looks pretty good.
Safety and Comfort
Liv and I went to a Big Sibling class at the hospital. She brought a baby doll and they gave the baby a diaper and a little newborn hat. Liv also insisted on bringing her sling (from Andrew and Laura), and she cradled and carried her baby all over the hospital. When we got in the car she insisted that the baby also be strapped in. Once everyone was safely installed, she fell fast asleep.
Crime and Punishment
Liv has been acting up quite a bit and normally we use time outs or other diversionary tactics, but this time she did something pretty dangerous and we wanted her to understand how important it is for her to listen and react when we're trying to keep her safe.
Jenny talked with Liv about punishments, and described how different families approach punishment and what those punishments might include. Jenny told l Liv that some family's use time-outs, some spank, some take privileges away, etc. Liv jumped in and said "If you spanked my butt that would be RUDE." That, of course, sent Jenny off laughing.
Anyway, when I got home we had the family talk and we decided that Liv would forgo her Friday special treat, she would loose her "watch a program" privilege, and she'd loose her "Lightening Cars" (her Lightening McQueen Die Cast cars -- her most prized possession).
Initially she seems like she could care less, but as she walked through the living room and saw her cars on the mantle (we put them where she soul see them) she would go into momentary agony mode. It was tough on her, but it seems to have made a big impression, and we now have a mutually understood action to escalate to if necessary.
Liv and Nat
Nat showcasing his all natural smile, while Liv pushes the limits of smile fakery. Cute nonetheless.
Rude
We seem to have settled on the word "rude" to use when Liv grabs, pushes, talks in a not-nice way, throws food on the ground, etc. It seems to work well and cover all the bases.
Liv pronounces it "wooo'd."
