Fires, Rings and Johnny Cash

Two kinda unrelated events, but they do tie back together. Last night we had our first fire of the season in the fireplace We talked with Livvy about it throughout the afternoon, and then I gave her a safety speech before I lit it, and then reviewed it throughout the night. This morning Livvy woke up and asked, "Where's the fire?" We explained about how it burns out, and she went off and played. A few minutes later she found the Johnny Cash CD sitting on the coffee table, she started asking for Ring of Fire, but we were busy at that exact moment and asked her to wait. She said, "OK!" A couple of moments later I headed into the living room, and Livvy was "talking" to Johnny Cash by holding the CD up to her her head like a telephone. She was saying, "Johnny Cash? OK, yes... OK, Ring of Fire? OK! Bye!" I asked her who she was talking with and she said "Johnny Cash!" I asked, "Where is he?" And she said, "He's in the ring of fireplace!"

Helping Mom Clean

Sometimes, regardless of being clothed or not, you need to help mom clean the counters.

Clappies

Yesterday we were playing with the Thomas the Tank Engine CDROM, and there is one part of the game where there is a band on a band stand, and you click on each member of the band and they play their instrument in time to the backing track. Now, Livvy's methods for using a mouse are still "move-fast-and-click-repeatedly" so her accuracy is somewhat off. She was clicking all over the place, activating and deactivating band members at random. Suddenly she stopped and pointed at the screen. She had clicked on the musician that had the cymbals, and she looked at me , looked at the screen and was obviously struggling to find the word to describe what she had just clicked on. What she finally blurted out was, "Look, he's playing the clappies."

Wishes

Today, while getting ready for co-op, Livvy asked me if she could have another "special treat." I said we didn't have another, but we could have one sometime in the future. She looked at me, stumbled over her words for a few seconds and then blurted out, "But I want you to say yes."

New Favorite Song

Livvy's new favorite song is Ring of Fire -- originally written by June Carter (Cash) and then re-recorded with Mariachi Band by Johnny Cash. She just loves it. I think the love stems from the fact that she knows that the song was written by June Carter when she was married to another, had fallen in love with Johnny Cash, who in turn was married to another. It's the complexity that she adores. Well, that and the repetition of "Down, Down, Down" and "Burn, Burn, Burn."

Brisk Evening Walk

We took an opportunity to go for a late afternoon walk at the Marina. It was cold enough to make our cheeks rosy.
