Fun with Momma
Olivia and Momma will play games in front of the mirror every so often. Livvy loves looking at herself and the games almost always result in big big smiles.
Potty Training
It's potty training season. What you can expect to see:
- Normally clothed activities in the nude
- Poop on the floors
- Puddles on the floor
Namaste
Here she is sitting on the couch with wearing this fantastic hat from Jamie. She's taken to using the Namastse position when wearing her hat.
Mexican Wrestler
Olivia is trying out for some south-of-the-border wrestling action. Mexico City Style.
Ear Dance
Today I was in charge of Olivia in the a.m.. Jenny had left for work, and when Olivia woke up she was pretty cranky about Momma not being around.
I played with her for a while in bed, making her laugh in small amounts with puppets and funny voices. We finally crawled out of bed, but she was still a little sad.
I picked her up and turned on the stereo to play some music and I asked her if she would dance with me.
She answered, "No, I don't want to dance."
I said, "OK" and started to dance around the room to one of her favorite songs.
She rested her head against my shoulder, and reached up and began to wiggle her ear.
She looked up at me, and with a little smile said, "I make my ear dance."
Halloween!
Olivia was a Queen for Halloween... it was a last-minute costume choice, but it seemed appropriate since her favorite song for the last 6 months has been "Old King Cole" and she's recently become enamored with the puppets on Mister Roger's Neighborhood: "King? Queen? Crown?"
So, this kid is into pointy hats. And we indulged her.
She proved herself to be a Halloween natural: she sprinted from house to house (flying, quite literally, on wings of SUGAR!! yes, it was her first taste of candy, and she liked it), trudged up stairs, said "Trick or Treat!" and "Happy Halloween" and "Thank You!" and then sprinted to the next house.
She liked the whole process, and wasn't too demanding on the candy front. A little goes a long way in a 30-lb. body, so we did try to limit her intake.
She said "Too scary? Too scary?" repeatedly as she walked up steps (a refrain in a Halloween book she read, I think) but clearly had no idea what "scary" means, because she wasn't the slightest bit scared. As soon as a door opened, she asked "Go in?" and had to be told that we weren't there for extended socializing.
She also loved seeing her good friends in costume: we went out early with Ella, Emma & Gabe, and a good time was had by all.
Popcorn = Happy
Livvy loves popcorn, and especially loves it when Shelly makes it for her. She's big on sharing, and loves to try to stuff her mouth full.
Crunch, crunch.
Always Performing
I can't quite remember what's going on here. One thing that I know is doubtless... we had people over for dinner and Livvy was entertaining us while we ate.
Pumpkin Patch
Olivia has in the last few weeks become obsessed with pumpkins. As we drive through the neighborhood she says "Dere's a punkin'," pointing to our neighbors porches.
When I ask, "Where?" she replies, "It's back dere, far away!"
Where did the obsession start? At co-op, of course. She made a pumpkin with googly eyes and a nose at Lisa's house. She named it "Harry."
Later that day, I picked her up from co-op and came home where we spent 45 minutes drawing pumpkins of various sizes and colors and assigning them names. My favorite name she made up? "Bah-Lu-Lah."
So we did what any parent of an obsessed kid would do: we took her to the pumpkin patches in Half Moon Bay. The visit quickly became about running amongst the pumpkins and filling up wagons full of various pumpkins and squash.
