A dark, dark week
We had our first bout with a stomach virus this past week. Since I haven't seen my baby throw up since she was about 3 months old, the non-stop pukefest that was the first 24 hours was truly horrifying. Between 11:30 pm Saturday and 11:30 am Sunday, Olivia threw up at least ten times. By the fourth or fifth event, she was so exhausted she just slept through it, while Grandma and I held her and cleaned her off. It was incredibly sad.
We had an upswing on Sunday, and then another crash Monday… for the next three days the girl was listless, with several pukes a day and little in the way of wet diapers (vomiting + diarrhea = concern for dehydration). All she wanted to do was sit on someone's lap and watch Thomas the Tank Engine videos. She was pale, and dark circles appeared under her eyes. We worried that she'd need to be hospitalized to get rehydrated.
Then on Wednesday morning, the tide appeared to turn. She woke up with a nice wet diaper, and she SMILED. Things have continued to improve, although the girl has lost some weight and looks frail and gaunt. The dark circles haven't quite disappeared yet.
Grandpa, Grandma & Aunt Sarah took care of us the whole week, which was a huge relief. I didn't have to worry about shopping, cooking, laundry… I could just be sick and worry about O. If there's a nice way to get sick, that would be it!
