Pylon Strategies

Olive played a complex game with these pylons/cones today. She began by stacking and unstacking them. Then she spaced them equally and stacked them back up. She did this several times, changing the order each time. Next, she moved each cone from one end of the park to the other. After placing a cone at the new end of the park, she named the next one she wanted by color and began the trek back to get it. She did this with three of the four pylons. Of course, when another, slightly older child saw her doing this the game was ruined. The big kid gathered up all the pylons and moved them back to the starting point. This destroyed at least 15 minutes of Olivia's work. Olivia watched as the older kid placed the pylons back in place. She contemplated for a minute and took the pylon that was in her hand and placed it in a very precise and well thought out place and turned to me and said "Swing!" So we went to the swings.
