Strategy

Olivia has been needy lately, with four molars breaking through, a head cold and a bad, bad cough. She's wanted a lot of Momma time, but Jenny is also sick and can't stop every 3 minutes to pick Olivia up. I was home for a few days for the holidays and was able to try to run interference. When I heard Olive say "Up-sheeseh" ("Up Please"), I would go over and pick her up. For the most part this worked well. After a while, she decided she really wanted Momma. So I tried to pick her up and she stomped her feet and said, "Nooo!." But Jenny kept trying to placate her by saying things like, "I'm sorry, I can't pick you up right now, I'm washing these dishes." or, "I'm so sorry sweety, Momma's hands are full." After a short time, she turned to me and said "Up Sheesh," and I picked her up, at which point she turned to Jenny and put out her hands. She discovered that if I lifted her up, she'd at least be able to plead her case at eye level.
